The MEGAL pipeline maintenance schedule for 2025 is now available.

This year’s maintenance will take place at several key stations, including Medelsheim, Mittelbrunn, Rimpar, and Gernsheim. These activities are essential to ensure the continued safety, reliability, and efficiency of the pipeline system, and more broadly, they are part of our long-term strategy of preparing the network for the future.

A major focus in 2025 will be the works at Medelsheim and Mittelbrunn. These upgrades aim to enhance the performance of the border points, improve flow direction reversibility, and enable more efficient blending of gas imported from France. This will help align incoming gas with German quality standards and significantly improve interoperability, supporting more flexible and reliable cross-border flows.

The Ruling Chamber 9 of the Federal Network Agency conducted consultations from December 13, 2024, to February 13, 2025, on the determinations:

• "AMELIE 2026" on the introduction of an effective balancing mechanism between transmission system operators within the German market area,
• "REGENT 2026" on determining a reference price methodology for all transmission system operators active in the nationwide entry and exit system, and from January 29 to February 13, 2025, on the determination:
• "MARGIT 2026" on the calculation of multipliers, discounts for interruptible capacities, rebates at LNG terminals, and seasonal factors.

The Ruling Chamber 7 conducted the second consultation on the draft decisions for the determination procedures from December 13, 2024, to February 14, 2025:

• "KARLA Gas 2.0" regarding capacity regulations and access management in the gas sector,
• "GaBi Gas 2.1" regarding gas balancing,
• "GeLi Gas 3.0" on defining standardized business processes and data formats for supplier changes in gas supply,
• "ZuBio" regarding access to biogas.

For the Trading Hub Europe (THE) market area the transmission system operators have determined the uniform tariff from 1 January 2025 on the basis of the Federal Network Agency’s (BNetzA) REGENT 2021 decision.

On 27 May 2024, NaTran Deutschland published this uniform network tariff. The annual tariff for firm, freely allocable entry and exit capacity will be 6,71 EUR/(kWh/h)/a applicable from 1 January 2025.

Compared to 2024, there is a major higher tariff for firm freely allocable entry and exit capacities in the THE market area.

The war in Ukraine has led to significant distortions on the European natural gas market from 2022. The current increase in tariffs can be attributed to various causes, some of which are only now emerging with a time lag and reflect the consequences of this crisis:

• High storage levels and a significant decline in end consumption and transit volumes lead to a reduced booking forecast.
• Due to the regulatory account system, the extraordinary effects from the crisis year 2022 (e.g. declines in bookings and high fuel costs) are now increasing costs with a time lag for the first time in 2025.
• The diversification of supply sources by means of new LNG plants has supported security of supply and helped to dampen the commodity price. The associated investments by individual transmission system operators in new entry points and connecting pipelines for the LNG facilities are also included in the 2025 tariff calculation.
